Strengths-Based Approaches to Supporting People Experiencing Poverty

Strengths-Based Approaches to Supporting People Experiencing Poverty

Poverty, financial insecurity, and rising living costs can have a profound impact on health and wellbeing. Adults with care and support needs and those accessing social care services are disproportionately affected by these issues.

Join an interactive workshop that will support adult social care practitioners to take a strengths-based approach when working with people experiencing poverty. Participants will explore how to have supportive conversations about financial difficulties, to connect people with local and national community resources, and to build confidence in responding to poverty-related challenges in practice.

Through discussion, reflection and shared learning, this session seeks to strengthen practitioners' ability to work alongside people and communities to achieve better outcomes in difficult circumstances.

Learning outcomes

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Use strengths-based approaches to support people experiencing poverty in accordance with their wishes, views, feelings and beliefs.
  • Have open and supportive conversations about money and financial difficulties with adults and their families, including carers.
  • Identify and connect people to local and national services, community groups and other sources of support.
  • Use different forms of supervision, peer support and reflective practice to develop your practice and manage the emotional impact of working in this area.
